Full-Time Research Internship | Studio Julian Charrière
Internship - Research
Studio Julian Charrière is searching for an full-time internship candidate as an addition to our research team.
This internship offers close involvement in the research practice and studio operations that underpin Julian Charrière's artistic work and its positioning within wider cultural, scientific, and institutional contexts. Working directly alongside the studio's Research & Advocacy Lead, you will engage with the conceptual questions the studio is actively working through, while supporting how this knowledge is organised, communicated, archived, and presented. The role combines rigorous research with administrative support, visual preparation, and archival organisation, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of the studio's practice
The ideal applicant will be a highly-motivated, independent-thinking problem solver who feels comfortable in fast-paced working environments. The studio is a busy place with many things going on all at once and the ideal intern will be someone who can boldly integrate themselves into the system, finding ways to be helpful at all times.
Your Tasks:
-Conducting thematic and contextual research across the conceptual, scientific, and cultural fields that inform the studio's work
-Building and maintaining research dossiers, reference collections, and annotated source material
-Preparing presentations, background materials, and visual reference documents for curatorial exchanges, institutional conversations, publications, and internal meetings
-Reviewing and cross-checking sources for accuracy and conceptual coherence
-Supporting the organisation and long-term development of the studio's research archive
-Assisting with image research and basic image editing (Adobe Photoshop) for presentations and research materials
-Providing administrative support for research projects and institutional collaborations
Your Profile:
-Currently enrolled in a programme that requires a mandatory internship (Pflichtpraktikum), in a field such as art history, cultural studies, literary studies, philosophy, curatorial studies, or a related humanities discipline
-Excellent written English; German and/or French a strong advantage
-A genuine capacity for independent, rigorous research — and an interest in developing it further
-Highly organised, with the ability to maintain research material, documentation, and multiple ongoing tasks with care and attention to detail
-Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Photoshop and InDesign) and confidence preparing presentations and visual documents
-Curiosity about contemporary art, ecological thought, and the relationship between artistic and scientific knowledge
-Ability to work methodically and reliably within a collaborative studio environment
Internship conditions:
The internship will be full-time, Monday through Friday, for three months. Let us know if you have any conflicts as we are willing to be flexible for the right person.
A successful internship, in most cases, can be the start for a long-time cooperation and gives the perfect first look about the insides of an internationally working artist studio.
About the artist:
Julian Charrière is a French-Swiss artist based in Berlin. His work has been exhibited in esteemed institutions and museums around the globe. Combining sculpture, performance, video, and photography, his projects often originate from fieldwork in remote, liminal locations such as volcanoes, icefields, and radioactive sites. By encountering places with distinctive geophysical identities, Charrière speculates on alternative histories, often viewing materials through the lens of deep geological time. His work deconstructs how cultural traditions shape our perception of nature, exploring its evolution from the Romantic era to the Anthropocene. He frequently collaborates with scientists, engineers, art historians, and philosophers. Whether undertaking artistic expeditions or staging immersive installations, Charrière’s practice examines how humans inhabit the world—and how the world inhabits us.
