Research Assistant

Studio Julian Charrière is looking for a Research Assistant, preferably full time on employment basis, but flexible for the right candidate. The position is meant to be filled as soon as possible.

About the artist:

Julian Charrière is a French-Swiss artist based in Berlin, Germany, whose work bridges the realms of environmental science and cultural history.
Working across media and conceptual paradigms, his projects often stem from fieldwork in remote locations with acute geophysical identities, such as volcanoes, ice-fields, or radioactive sites. Charrière combines unconventional methods to point out the inseparable bond between human civilization and the environment, revealing unexpected perspectives and addressing central issues of deep geological as well as human historical times. Deploying seemingly perennial imagery to contemporary ends, his interventions at the borderline of mysticism and material encapsulate our fraught relations with place today.

A former student of Olafur Eliasson and participant in the Institute for Spatial Experiments, he graduated from the Berlin University of the Arts in 2013 and has exhibited his work at institutions and biennials worldwide, among others including the Centre Pompidou (2021), Dallas Museum of Art (2021), Hamburger Bahnhof (2021), Aargauer Kunsthaus (2020), MASI Lugano (2019), Berlinische Galerie (2018), SCHIRN Kunsthalle Frankfurt (2018), Thyssen Bornemisza Art Contemporary (2017), 57th Biennale di Venezia (2017), the Antarctic Biennale (2017), Martin Gropius Bau (2016), Musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts de Lausanne (2014).

Core responsibilities will be (in no particular order):

- Discussing ideas and concepts with the artist, bringing them in the right framework and synthesizing them into text
- Text production for applications and proposals
- Creation of project descriptions (for various purposes from internal use to display on museum labels)
- Content review and copy editing of texts and interviews
- Content research in the course of the development of concepts and ideas
