Freelance Editor for Cultural Publications

Working with artists to realise the integration of a ‘Wellbeing Culture’ within urban design, it is a catalyst for collaboration, bringing together an international network of leading figures from diverse fields to address the most urgent aspects of human life. Led by a deep engagement with the natural environment, Therme Art combines the interests of the latest scientific findings in human health, with the needs of urban design and culture.

To help achieve this, we are now looking to hire a Freelance Editor to manage and execute standalone publications with a focus on art, culture, and wellbeing. The role will include the handling of planning, editing and referencing of existing material, essays, transcripts and video material to create compelling and coherent books and editions. Working directly with the corresponding Project Managers, the role will execute the realisation of an exciting range of Therme Art publications. The role will be based at the Therme Art office at Erkelenzdamm 5, Berlin, with the possibility of working remotely.

The freelance editor will be employed at Therme Art: the innovation lab and cultural incubator of leading wellbeing provider Therme Group. The work is in close collaboration with the CEO and Curator of Therme Art, Mikolaj Sekutowicz as well as a team of curators and communication staff.

The freelance editor role will cover in particular:

• Formulating texts in accordance with our editorial and formatting standards
• Close and transparent communication with the CEO & Curator of Therme Art as well as the communications department and team of curatorial writers
• Project management and delegation of tasks relating to this publication project
• Sighting and redaction of essays and transcripts, distilling the most important information
• Foreseeing and approaching potential conflicts with a problem-solving oriented mind
• Conducting original research and copy writing and editing for accuracy and originality
• Proofreading to detect and correct grammatical and formatting errors
• Oversight over timeline and resources, regularly communicating updates, delays or need for additional resources
• Liaison with graphic designers for the visual implementation of content
• Correspondence and management of publishers, external authors, and archives
• Research and inquiry of text and image copyright and credits

Freelance Writer Requirements:

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in the fields of cultural writing, editing and/or publications
• Demonstrated experience managing publications (preferably of art, cultural, and health or science related contexts)
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Communication Studies, or adjacent field
• Necessary equipment including a laptop or computer and workspace with internet access and necessary software
• Familiarity with word processing and task management software
• Excellent verbal communication and time management skills
• Self-motivated, disciplined approach to work
• Ability to multi-task, outstanding organisational and time-management skills
• Meticulous approach with an outstanding sense for detail
• Native / very fluent in English
